TOURIST RENTAL OF A PROPERTY IN THE BALEARIC ISLANDS. SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE SUSPENSION OF THE PURCHASE OF TOURIST PLACES 

 

The government of the Balearic Islands has decided to adopt a measure of temporary suspension of the possibility of acquiring new tourist places as of February 2022. In this article we will address one of the main questions. 

 

¿Why has this measure been adopted? 

This suspension has been adopted so that the administration can evaluate the tourist load of each island and determine the number of places that can be marketed for tourism, thus establishing a limit on the number of places that can be given.  

 

¿What is the duration of this moratorium? 

This suspension is expected to be for a maximum duration of four years. 

 

¿What does it affect? 

This measure affects both the start of tourist activity and its expansion and affects tourist accommodation establishments (such as hotels) and tourist rental properties on the islands of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera. 

 

¿Can it affect existing places?  

NO, this measure does not affect existing places or those in process. it doesn’t affect the change of owner and/or operator.  

 

¿What happens if I must renew my tourist “licence”? 

For the time being, if you must renew your “tourist licence”, there is no problem, if you continue to comply with the requirements for which you obtained it, in accordance with the regulations.
